May 7, 2021

Blogging is a great tool for any business and is often looked over as something that takes up too much time to complete. That being said, it is perfect for those looking to up themselves in search engine rankings, blog posts are an easy way to ensure that your website keeps adding new content – which Google loves!

A blogging platform tends to be a Content Management System which supports blog creation. There are loads of platforms out there, so it is important to know which ones are worth devoting your time to.

Here is a list of just a few of our favourite platforms:

WordPress

This has to be one of the most popular blogging platforms in the world, and tends to be everyone’s go to for not just bloggers but website creators as well. WordPress is super easy to use and flexible.

Before using WordPress you will have to decide whether to use wordpress.com or wordpress.org.

With wordpress.com you can create your own blog for free, but you will only be able to select from their own templates. And you will have to use a subdomain with the free version, unless you pay for a personal plan.

Whereas with wordpress.org, you are using an open-source blogging platform that allows you to build your site from scratch. However, you will need to purchase your own domain name and hosting, but the software is free.

Squarespace

Unlike wordpress.org, Squarespace gives you everything you could need to build your own website. This means you don’t have to go looking for your own domain name, and they also have a selection of templates for you to choose from.

By only being able to use the templates they have on offer, you are somewhat limited to what you can do, however it is a great starting place for creating your own blog.

Medium

Medium is a little different compared to the other options, as instead of creating your own website, you are actually paying a monthly fee to join a community. It comes with its own built-in community, so you can start speaking to other people and generate results from your posts.

LinkedIn

This is one of the most popular social media platforms for professionals and businesses, but is often overlooked by bloggers. When users aren’t searching for connections, they are often looking at the content posted on the website.

LinkedIn is great if you prefer a social media platform, rather than a full website, plus the more you publish the more you’ll attract readers!
